It’s a Trap: 5/23

From the journal May May 2023:

Sacrificing your creative calling, yes, sacrificing your creative calling for the sake of others, for the sake of being sensible, for the sake of being humble, is not responsible, no, it is not right. It is a form of self-betrayal, yes, self-betrayal, a betrayal of the spirit, a betrayal of the essence of who you are. To create is to express, to express is to be, to be is to exist in the fullness of your truth.

When you place the desires of others above your own calling, you dim your light, you stifle your voice, you silence your heart. Creativity is not a luxury; it is a necessity. It is the breath of life that flows through your veins, the pulse that beats in your chest, the fire that ignites your spirit. To sacrifice it for the sake of others is to deny the very core of your being, to deny the beauty of your existence.

To be sensible, they say, to be humble, they say, but what is sensible if it comes at the cost of your truth? What is humility if it means relinquishing your gift, your passion, your calling? It is a false sense of responsibility, a societal expectation that expects you to shrink, to conform, to fit into a mold that does not reflect your essence.

You are not meant to fit; you are meant to flourish. Your creative calling is your compass, guiding you through the labyrinth of life, leading you to places unexplored, to truths unspoken. To betray that calling is to wander aimlessly, to lose sight of your purpose, to disconnect from the very fabric of your being.

Each brushstroke, each note, each word, it is all an extension of you, a reflection of your thoughts, your emotions, your experiences. When you sacrifice that for the sake of others, you lose a piece of your soul, a piece of your soul that cannot be reclaimed. It is not responsible to silence your creativity; it is not right to allow the voices of others to drown out your own.

So embrace your calling, yes, embrace it with fervor, with passion, with unapologetic joy. Let it flow, let it shine, let it be the beacon that guides you through the darkness of doubt, the confusion of expectation. To create is to honor yourself, to celebrate your existence, to affirm the beauty of who you are.

Sacrificing your creative calling is a betrayal, a denial of your truth. Do not fall into the trap of thinking that being sensible or humble means sacrificing your essence. No, it means embracing it, embodying it, living it fully. In honoring your creative spirit, you honor yourself, and in that honoring, you find your path, your joy, your freedom. Create boldly, create authentically, create for you, for the world needs your truth, your voice, your art.
