No One Sees What You See: 2/22

From the journal February 2022:

No one sees what you see, even if they see it too. This is a truth, a simple truth, a profound truth. What is seeing? Seeing is a sensation, a perception, a way of relating to the world. When you look, when you gaze, when you observe, what do you see? You see the colors, the shapes, the forms, the movement, but what do you truly see? You see through your eyes, your heart, your experience, and that is uniquely yours.

Even when others look, even when they gaze, even when they observe, they do not see what you see. They see the surface, they see the light, they see the shapes, but they do not see the layers, the depth, the essence. Each person has a lens, a perspective, a history that shapes their interpretation. No two gazes are the same, no two experiences align perfectly, and therein lies the beauty, the complexity, the richness of existence.

You may stand side by side, you may share the same space, the same moment, the same light, but what unfolds in your mind is a story woven with the threads of your thoughts, your feelings, your memories. When you look at a painting, a scene, a person, you translate it through the filter of your life. The colors speak differently to you; the shapes evoke different emotions. The same image can ignite joy in one and sorrow in another.

This is not a failure of perception; it is the nature of being human. It is the intricacy of our individual realities, the kaleidoscope of existence. No one sees what you see, even if they stand next to you, even if they claim to understand. They do not feel your feelings, they do not hear your thoughts, they do not know your journey.

And this is where the artist thrives, this is where the artist flourishes. The artist captures the unseen, the unspoken, the essence that lies behind the visible. The artist knows that their vision is singular, that their interpretation is a reflection of their inner world. In the act of creation, the artist distills the essence of what they see into form, into color, into sound. They invite others to witness, to engage, to feel, but they also acknowledge that the experience will be different for each beholder.

So when you share your vision, when you express your truth, remember this: no one sees what you see, even if they see it too. Your creation is a bridge, a connection, an invitation to explore the depths of your perspective. It is an opportunity to share a glimpse of your world, but it is not an expectation for others to see it in the same light.

Embrace the uniqueness of your vision, embrace the richness of your experience. Know that your sight is a gift, a treasure, a singular viewpoint in a sea of countless perspectives. No one sees what you see, and that is the beauty of it all. Your truth is yours alone, and in that truth, you find your voice, your power, your place in this intricate dance of existence.
